Worcester Vase and Cover, 2nd quarter
19th Century, the ovoid body finely
painted with ‘fancy birds’ within two gilt
scroll-edged panels, under a fluted
shoulder reserved with smaller panels
against the dark-blue ground between
gut griffin handles under an over-turned
rim, the slider acanthus molded foot
spreading onto the square base and
decorated with birds and butterfly
vignettes, the matching cover
surmounted by a floral knops, minor
rubbing to gilding, 53cmcover
inscribed ‘Chamberlain’s Worcester’ in grey
puce script.
A vase of similar form and apparently painted by the same hand was sold at Sotheby’s, Bond Street and is illustrated by G. Godden, Chamberlain Worcester Porcelain, p. 304, fig.
. The present piece differs in a number of details, principally in having vignettes on the cover, neck, shoulder, foot and base.

molded piece enameled in puce and

and molded with integral ‘ring’ handles
over hexagonal blue-ground panels
enclosing cornflowers between roses in
vertical diamond panels outlined in
burnished gilding, one base damaged, small
