ANTIQUE GERMAN PORCELAIN: Potschappel Vases, ‘Dresden’ Basket, late 19th Century

A small Group of German
porcelain Cups and Saucers, late
19th/early 20th Century, comprising:
three Cups and Saucers, each painted
with gilt framed panels of flowers and
figures against a turquoise ground, two
Dresden Cups and Saucers, painted with
flowers against a green scale ground and
a covered Cup and Saucer, decorated
with harbour scenes, minor chips, various
printed and painted marks.

A Pair of Potschappel pierced Vases and Covers, 2nd half 19th Century, each pear-form body painted with panels of classical figures framed by encrusted flower swags, set with

female mask handles, the cover with tall floral finial, raised on a trefoil base, some restoration and chips, 33cm.; 13in., factory mark in blue.

A Pair of Volkstedt four-light Candelabra, late 19th Century, a gallant and companion standing holding fruit before a tree stump, a dog and lamb at their feet, below three

flower encrusted scroll arm branches, raised on a scroll moulded base, some damage, 51cm.; 20in., blue printed and impressed marks.

Two German porcelain pagoda
Figures, 2nd half 19th Century, each
corpulent figure seated cross-legged, she
with blue neck ribbon, flowered robe,
blue shoes and bun, he in flowered robe
and green shoes, the heads, hands and
tongues pivoted to rock back and forth,
tiny chips, her foot restored, three hands
detached, 29.25cm.; HV2in. high, impressed
and blue printed marks.

A German two-handled Vase, late
19th Century, relief moulded and
coloured with two classical figures riding
in a chariot drawn by swans, the reverse
decorated with a maiden seated on the
back of a sea creature, caryatid handles,
cracks, 20.5cm.; 8in., crossed swords mark in
underglaze-blue; also a Pair of tin glazed
earthenware baluster Vases with
Chinoiserie decoration.

A Carl Thieme, Potschappel
Centrepiece, 2nd half 19th Century, two
putti around a flower encrusted column below a pierced basket encrusted and painted with scattered flowers, raised on a scroll moulded base, minor repair and chips, 36cm.;

141/4in., factory mark in blue.

A Pair of German porcelain Cassolettes and Stoppers, 2nd half 19th Century, possibly each urn-shaped body with Egyptian thask handles, on a short fluted column on a square base

with bun feet, decorated with scattered floral sprays and small vignettes around a relief moulded swag heightened with yellow and gilt, with reversible candlestick stoppers, one

cracked and with finial missing.

A miniature ‘Dresden’ two-handled pierced Basket, late 19th Century, decorated in the Meissen style, the centre painted with a pair of courtly lovers in an Arcadian landscape

within a gilt scroll frame, the pierced flaring sides moulded on the outside with puce flowerheads, each with a yellow centre, between gilt rope-twist rims and a pair of gilt

twisted loop handles, 9.5cm.; 33Ain. across, crossed swords mark in underglaze-blue.

A Dresden Ecuelle and Cover, late
19th Century, each piece painted with
vignettes of figures in a landscape, set
with gilt scroll moulded handle, the low
domed cover with bird finial, repair and
chip to bird, chips to flower, 20.25cm.; 8in.
wide, blue AR mark.

A Dresden two-handled Cup,
Cover and Stand, late 19th Century, of
quatrefoil form, each painted with
alternate panels of figures in a landscape
and flower groups against a turquoise
ground, chips, stand 14cm.; 51/2in. wide,
blue AR mark; also a similar Dresden Cup,
Cover and Stand.

A Berlin porcelain two-handled ovoid Vase, 1849-1870, well painted with the Four Evangelists in their guise of Angel, Lion, Ox and Eagle surrounding the figure of God or Christ

supported by two putti against a shaded blue/grey ground, between flaring foot and rim painted with fluting and two applied serpent handles, minor chips and restoration, 42cm.;

161/2in. high, blueprinted mark.

A Pair of Dresden Wall Brackets, late 19th Century, painted with vignettes of Watteauesque lovers and scattered flowers against a green scale ground applied beneath with a

cherub holding grapes or flowers, ebonised wood tops, some chips and restoration.

A Set of nine Volkstedt monkey
Bandsmen, late 19th Century, including
a conductor, each brightly dressed
musician raised on a scroll moulded
circular base highlighted in gilt, some
damage, each approx. 13.5cm.; 51/4in.,
scissors mark in underglaze-blue.

A Volkstedt Model of a parrot,
20th Century, the brightly painted bird
perched on a white glazed flower and
branch moulded base, 24.5cm.; 95/sin.,
blue printed E/N/S mark, impressed numerals.

A Hohenberg, Bavaria, oval
porcelain Plaque, late 19th Century,
painted with a three-quarter-length portrait of a classically draped woman holding a child and a small goat, framed, 15.9cm.; 61Uin. long, impressed mark.

A Pair of Dresden Vases and
Covers, late 19th Century, of tapered
cylindrical form, each side painted with a
military camp scene within an elaborate
gilt frame, set with caryatid handles, the
pierced cover with artichoke finial, raised
on three reeded gilt supports and
rectangular feet, one cover restored, finial
glued, 42cm.; 16′/2in., ‘AR’ marks in blue.

A German porcelain Table Mirror, late 19th Century, conceived as two winged putti drawing back a pair of white glazed curtains to reveal an oval mirror, the frame applied with

encrusted roses below, all topped by a flower painted cartouche, chips and restoration, 42cm.; 161/2in. high.

Three German coloured bisque porcelain female Busts, late 19th Century, each allegorical of a country, comprising: a pair titled ‘Amerika’ and ‘Europa’, each raised on a marble

effect base moulded with three blue ribs, and another, untitled, probably representing Prussia, modelled wearing a crown and eagle crested breastplate, raised on a similar base,

chips, each approx. 28cm.; llin. high, painted ‘RR’ monogram, impressed numerals.

A large Dresden Vase, Cover and Stand, circa 1900, the pear-shaped body painted with Watteauesque figures, the reverse with a flower group, with flower encrusted frames, the

shoulders set with four putti holding garlands, the domed cover surmounted by two putti flanking the arms of Augustus the Strong, the base with painted panels and floral

encrustations, minor damage, 68.5cm.; 27in., blueprinted ‘Dresden’ mark.

A Pair of Dresden double gourd vases, late 19th Century, each painted with colourful birds in branches against a yellow ground, 35cm.; 133/4in., ‘AR’ mark in blue.
